Transform Your Pro-Ject Turntable into a Reference Table at a Fraction of the Price
It might surprise you to learn that most turntables don’t run at precisely 33 1/3 rpm. This is not a manufacturing defect, it’s simply that there are so many miniature fluctuations in your AC power that even a really good power conditioner may not be able to fix. These small fluctuations show up in your records as a higher noise floor, reduced bass response, unstable imaging, lack of top-end clarity and in the worst case scenarios can even result in speed fluctuations or warbles on continuous tones.
This is the reason why every high-end turntable manufacturer makes an outboard speed stability device for use with their turntables; getting stable and precisely adjusted power to your turntable is essential to getting the optimum performance! Unfortunately, these outboard boxes are usually quite expensive and add considerably to the price of the turntable.
Fortunately, there’s Pro-Ject’s high-end Speed Box SE II outboard power supply. This high quality quartz-generated and electronically regulated power supply offers exceptional adjustability and rock-solid output. Take a look at the specs tab, this is a serious piece of engineering at a very reasonable price
Once you realize you have a speed problem, you?ll need to fix it for sanity?s sake. This is the Speed Box with all the bells and whistles. The SE version not only includes quartz-generated and electronically regulated 33 1/3 and 45 rpm switching, but also provides the ability to fine-tune speed precisely. Its speed stability is +/- 0.001%, 10X more accurate than the regular Speed Box. The pitch control is variable by +/- 0.1 RPM in 20 steps. A digital readout displays the selected speed. 78s are also accommodated with Pro-Ject turntables, using the accessory pulley.
